Rhetorik II, 16: »Simonides antwortete auf die Frage, ob es besser sei, reich oder weise zu sein, reich; denn er sehe die Weisen in den Vorhöfen der Reichen verweilen.« Ein Philosoph hat freilich einmal auf den Hinweis, daß nicht umgekehrt die Reichen vor den Türen der Philosophen anzutreffen seien, gemeint, die Reichen wüßten nicht was ihnen fehlt, die Philosophen aber wohl.
